I'm back from Japan, I had a wonderful time!

However, this blog will not be coming back from hiatus - I have decided instead to move to tumblr completely.

It's my 100th post on this blog! Woohoo! Thank you to all my readers! ♥ I greatly appreciate your comments and support.

Anyway, I got my hair redyed yesterday! The split is more pronounced more, I love it! I'll also be getting feather extensions on Saturday, which I'm excited about! Which side do you think I should get them on - the dark side or the light side?

Obviously, these pictures aren't from my dinky camera, though. They were taken by my awesome photographer yesterday~ it was an impromptu photoshoot after I got picked up from the airport after going to Katsucon in Maryland!

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry for the super-duper lack of updates :[ it's kind of hard to find motivation to take pictures when your camera isn't working and you only have a phone to use...

I'm home for winter break, so I have access to my parents' camera, so I took some pictures today for you all.

I don't know if you can tell, but I cut and dyed my hair! It's not a great picture to show the new hairdo off, but it's a bit darker than before, along with an even darker streak in my bangs. It's also now just past shoulder length - I got about 4 inches cut off.

The hat was a Christmas gift from my parents, and the socks I bought using a Claire's giftcard from my younger sister!

I also just got a new piercing, but you can't see it in these pictures - my right tragus!

BB Parallel World Review!

Yup, look what came in the mail this afternoon!
And of course, as promised, a review...

Let's Brand New Wave
Extremely catchy, danceable tune.
Miku's voice sounds really good in this opening track, and I love the keyboards, reminiscent of Lock on the o New Sekai. I'd really like it if there was some more guitar, maybe a solo, but other than that? Awesome song, one of my favourites out of the seven new ones.

夏恋★夏GAME
I meant to review this single when it came out a month ago, but I never really got the chance...
Another very catchy tune where Miku's voice sounds wonderful. Granted, you have to be a fan of his voice, because it is a unique one, but I think it sounds awesome in this track.
The guitar solo at 2:34 [roughly] is a fun switch-up in the sound of the song...I don't know much about guitars, but I really like the sound takuya puts into this solo.
Love this song.

苺
This track starts off sounding pretty similar to the tracks on Gokutama Rock Cafe that didn't really stand out to me, like Aijo Cycling and Daybreak.
The chorus is cute, it reminds me a lot of Shelly Trip Realize [another J-rock band], which is interesting because An Cafe once did a collab with them...
I like the song, but it's not particularly interesting.

Passion!!
The beginning reminds me a lot of Excalibur by Psycho le Cemu...which I love that song, so that's a good thing!
The guitar is very sold sounding, as is Teruki's drumming. Miku's voice sounds very, very good in this track.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one...along with Let's Brand New Wave, it's my favourite of the seven brand new tracks.

NYAPPY in the parallel world
This track starts off with a orchestra-type beginning...then quickly reverts into a DDR-like beat, much like its "Nyappy" predecessor, Nyappy in the World 4. Like all the NITW songs, it's very upbeat.
Call me picky, but I didn't like how they word "nyappy" isn't actually in the song...minor distraction, though.
In relation to the other NITWs [there are 5 total now], I'd rank this as my 3rd or 4th favourite.

Let me start off by saying...I am not a ballad fan. Never have been, most likely never will.
However, Miku's voice sounds beautiful in this, and Yuuki's piano playing is so lovely...they really did do a good job with this track.

Aroma
I reviewed this some time ago when the single first came out, so I won't go very in-depth...I'll just make another note saying I LOVE this song ;D

武士道と云ふは死ぬ事と見付けたり
When this song came on...I wet myself I was so happy: Miku's growl is back! Now if you've been following An Cafe from the beginning like I have, you may have missed it back in Gokutama Rock, I know I did! Once again, I'm totally loving Miku's voice in this...and the guitar is fantastic.
Another awesome track to add to the mix.

SUMMER DIVE ～甘トロPEACH☆BEACH～
I may have reviewed this back when it came out in 2008, but I don't remember...haha. Too long ago...but it really is an adorable song. It doesn't stand out all that much in my mind, but I really like the beat. I really like the rappish part right before the chorus, and Miku's voice during the chorus sounds really good. Plus, I can't help but like any song I've seen live...

MY HEART LEAPS FOR "C"
I will always love this song. The lyrics are my favourite part, which you can't tell what they are unless you read the translation or speak Japanese, but they're beautiful...all about An Cafe's love for their Cafekko. I love the keyboard in this song, Yuuki does a great job.
Not really related to the song itself, but I am kind of disappointed they included it on the album, just because I bought Koakuma Usagi thinking the EP would be exclusive from the album, but...meh. Not a big deal.

YOU
Once again, I'm not a huge fan of ballads. This isn't as slow as alone, but it still is a more solemn song. However, Miku's voice sounds absolutely beautiful in this, for the most part. It's a bit nasally throughout the chorus, but I digress. I also greatly enjoy takuya's guitar pieces.
It really is a lovely song to end off the album with.

Overall
I really love this album. I definitely would rank it higher than Gokutama Rock Cafe...there were a few duds on that album, imo, but on this one, every track is incredibly enjoyable. The only complaints really would be the fact that My Heart Leaps for C is on this album [see reasoning above] and that there is no new PV to go along with it, but that's unrelated to the actual sound.
However, I will say that I don't think it surpasses Magnya Carta, as Miku was hoping it would...I honestly think they may never pass that level, as much as I love them all.

Let's all hope for the best in their hiatus, and cross our fingers that they'll come up with something amazingly new and exciting to wow us all when they come back!

Their new album is now available for preorder!
I personally recommend CDJapan for that.
It is so far untitled, but I'll let you all know as soon as the title is released!
It is set to be out on September 9th.

Also, the covers for their single due out in August have been released.

I haven't done an update on the An Cafe world in a while... here's the latest news!
Their new single, titled 夏恋★夏GAME [that's "Summer Love★Summer Game"] will be released August 12th. There's a countdown in the sidebar, feel free to snag it for yourself!
Their OHP was also updated with their new outfits for the single:

I don't know what's up with the blow-up doll...xD they also mentioned in their blog that the PV was something we've never seen before from them, so look forward to it!
Finally, their 4th new album will be released in September - the title and exact date have yet to be released.

It was just announced that they will be having a meet&greet session at the Cure Shop in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles on Friday, April 10th.
Here's the need-to-know info:

The autograph session is on the 10th of April, it starts at 7PM and will only be for an hour!

In that hour only 50 people can get an autograph.
Numbered cards must be picked up at the shop the day of the event (you cannot pick up for someone else).
They will only autograph their official merchandise (which will be for sale at the store all day).

Well, the European leg of the tour is almost halfway over.
It seems as though they're sticking with the same setlist everywhere, so unless I find a change, I won't be posting setlists any longer. Just refer to the Moscow setlist I posted.

Now I know I promised setlists for Moscow and Helsinki, but getting the European setlists has been like pulling teeth :| So I'll give you all the info I know.

So far, no full reviews have been posted about this show, so I can't really tell you the setlist. I'll update as soon as I know. I do know they played the following:

As with every show they ever play, Tekesuta Kousen is a must. And they always play a NITW song, so this doesn't surprise me, either.

I realized something sad as I was getting ready today - no necklaces while my tattoo is healing! ;__; I tried to put one on, but it hurt too much, so I'll have to forgo that fashion accessory for the next couple of weeks.

bet you thought today's post would be about An Cafe, didn't you? Well, the live in Moscow is still running, so nothing yet ;3 I think I'll be posting every three lives, anyway, so that the blog doesn't get too spammed with An Cafe live reports, ha
Anyway, about the outfit.
This week is "challenge week" - I'm home for spring break, so I only have a small suitcase of clothes, plus whatever I buy while I'm here. Lately I've been feeling very "pink", so this continues the pink saga.

Aroma Review

So I'm finally posting a review on Aroma...I'm going to review all three songs on the single, as well as the PV.

Aroma
The more I listen to this song, the more I love it.
It starts off strong and hard, takuya's guitar coming in clearly at 0:10 and then Miku's voice wonderfully at 0:21. You can tell he's been taking vocal lessons, because his voice is becoming more and more refined with each new release. At 1:03, you hear takuya come in with a new rhythm, creating a whole new dimension. 1:14 becomes interesting, because Miku does a little rapping. This seems to be popular in visual kei these days, so I'm not surprised they added this element. The chorus finally comes in at 1:23 and it is beautiful. You can feel the emotion in Miku's voice easily. 2:41 starts Yuuki's solo. It's not much, but it adds to the serene environment. 2:50 is takuya's solo. Again, not much, I know takuya can do better, but it fits well with the song. 3:01 is the bridge, and Miku's voice sounds beautiful once again. The end is powerful, yet not too much so. Miku ends off on an extremely good note.
So, overall, I give this song 4 1/2 stars out of 5. The only thing that could've been better was to make Yuuki and takuya's solos a bit more.

Best Apart
Let me first say, I was disappointed with the B-side songs, this one especially. I had high hopes after hearing Aroma, but they definitely were dashed.
Miku's voice is too nasally at the beginning. I enjoy the piano background, as it's Yuuki's specialty, but that's about as much as I liked. Miku's voice finally gains traction around 0:28, but that took a while. 0:51 begins the chorus. I'm sorry if you like this sort of thing, but it sounds like a Johnny's song, something that would be the theme song for a J-drama. The guitar is nice at 1:26, but it will need a lot more to redeem itself at this point.
I have to say, I definitely did enjoy Yuuki's piano throughout the whole song, but that was basically the only redeeming point. The song is way too poppy, even for An Cafe. So if you're into that sort of thing, this song is for you. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of Japanese boy bands, so I highly disliked this song.
I give this piece a 1 1/2 out of 5 stars.

365daysクエイサー

Now, can anyone tell me what on earth "quasar" means..? Ok, the dictionary gives me this definition: one of over a thousand known extragalactic objects, starlike in appearance and having spectra with characteristically large redshifts, that are thought to be the most distant and most luminous objects in the universe.
Um, what? Did An Cafe get left in a room with an English dictionary to casually leaf through and pick out one of the most random words they could find..? Definitely their weirdest song title to date, for sure.
But enough about the title, I'm here to review the song.
It starts off pretty nicely with Yuuki's special effects. But at 0:14, the melody comes in...and it sounds like a super-hero anime theme. It's catchy, that's for sure, but...an anime theme at that. When the chorus starts up, it has an almost '70s feel to it. I do have to say, at least Miku's voice is better in this than in Best Apart. 2:07 has takuya coming in with a pretty nice guitar solo. Directly after is a short Yuuki solo, then a Yuuki/Miku duet.
While technically this isn't a bad song, it's too anime-ish for my likings and so...
I give it a 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Aroma PV
I'm not going to say much about the PV, just because I like to focus more on the music, even if An Cafe is a visual band.
Unfortunately, this PV is extremely visual kei mainstream. I'm sorry, An Cafe, could you please get a little more creative..? It's an alice nine. PV, not an An Cafe PV in all technicalities. Yes, Aroma is a darker song, so the PV deserves to be darker, but...candles? [I was just waiting for something to catch on fire] Miku singing provocatively on a couch..? Definitely not An Cafe-like. GUYS. What happened to your good PVs?! Maple Gunman, Smile Ichiban ii Onna, Escapism? Oh wait, Bou left, lol. Seriously, the PVs have gone downhill since the change, which I'm now ok with, but I want to see better PVs nonetheless. Cherry Saku Yuuki slightly redeemed the new generation, so did Ryuusei Rocket, but they still weren't on the same level.
Alright An Cafe, I'm still waiting for the day, I have faith in you!
I give the PV 2 out of 5 stars.
